Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT)

Limerick Institute of Technology provides higher education in the Limerick City within the Mid-West region of Ireland. LIT remains the fourth largest Institute of Technology in the country and hosts more than 6,000 full-time and part-time students and over 500 staff. There are five campuses and a learning centre spread out across Limerick city, Tipperary and Clare. The primary campus of Limerick Institute of Technology is located at Moylish Park, and Limerick city has two city centre campuses at Clare Street and Georges Quay. There are two LIT based campuses in Thurles and Clonmel in Tipperary. The museum in the Ennis town centre is home to the LIT Ennis Learning Centre.

There are Level 6 Certificate, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD and more available for applicants at the Limerick Institute of Technology. The Institute also offers craft apprentices and mature education. In 2008 and 2013 the Sunday Time University Guide awarded LIT the ‘Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year. This guide also included higher leaning in the UK as well as Ireland.

The Limerick Institute of Technology provides an active and practical approach to education adapting their Active Learning Philosophy, which offers a core methodology for all programmes within teaching and learning. This philosophy is demonstrated over a huge range of diverse and exciting courses from the creative arts to business to sport. LIT knits theory and practice together, which had resulted in the Institute been rated as one of the top campuses for community and collaboration in learning.

There is a huge selection of clubs and societies at the Limerick Institute of Technology, including Media Production, Music Society, DJ Society, Cult Film Society. And a variety of sports teams are available within the Institute also, including Hurling, Football, Basketball, Boxing, Rugby and much more. LIT is also host to Wired FM, the Institute’s very own radio station that delivers a certain communal atmosphere across the campuses.
