Trinity College Dublin has been ranked number one for Nursing in Ireland, 5th in Europe and 26th worldwide in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.

For the past nine years, Trinity has consistently ranked as one of the top 50 universities in the world for Nursing.

This achievement is recognition of the School of Nursing & Midwifery’s strong academic reputation, quality graduates, global standing as a great place to work, and high level of impactful research output.

It is important to acknowledge the hard work ethic and high standards set by the School’s academics, researchers, clinical educators, professional staff, students and partners, who are committed to transforming healthcare, both in Ireland and at a global level.

“Since the establishment of the School of Nursing & Midwifery in 1996, Trinity College Dublin has been recognised as a national and international leader in Nursing and Midwifery education and research.

Our position for Nursing in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject reflects the quality of the education provided to our students, the valuable academic expertise, professionalism, and clinical skills experience of our staff, and our ongoing innovation and contributions to health and healthcare research.

It is also a testament to the strong partnerships we have forged with our healthcare providers and other collaborators.”

Prof Fintan Sheerin

Head of School

“Our ranking in the QS is a real achievement and reflects our commitment towards transforming healthcare though excellence in education, practice and research.

However, the success of our School goes beyond rankings. Our mission is to drive person-centred, integrated and impactful research, while enhancing the health and wellbeing of those for whom we care.

I am extremely proud of our collective efforts to accomplish this mission and to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Dr. Sharon O’Donnell

Director of Research

“We are very proud of our performance in the QS World Subject Rankings for Nursing 2024.

Whilst this is a time to celebrate, it is also important to recognise that our work transcends the boundaries of what is captured by global university rankings.

We are a research-intensive School, whose work advances knowledge, shapes public policy, improves lives and positively impacts the quality of healthcare in Ireland and beyond.”

Dr Luciana Lolich
