Taking a class in Tae Bo might be the answer for you if you are interested in martial arts as a beginner or even would like to learn a different form to what you already know.

What is Tae Bo?

Tae Bo was developed by tae kwon do practitioner Billy Blanks and is an aerobic exercise routine. It is considered to be one of the first “cardio-boxing” programs to enjoy commercial success. Tae bo uses the motions of martial arts at a much quicker pace and the work out is designed to promote fitness. The name Tae Bo is a portmanteau of tae kwon do and boxing. Blanks later developed a backronym for the name as well: Total Awareness Excellence Body Obedience.

Tae Bo is known to be an excellent cardiovascular workout. Because of the specific movements it utilises, Tae Bo is effective in toning and defining the body’s musculature. It can also improve balance, flexibility and coordination.

Why join a tae bo class?

If you wish to tone your body significantly, Tae Bo is effective in toning body muscles. It is thought that engaging in an hour-long Tae Bo workout can potentially burn between 500 and 800 calories. So its good for shaping and burning fat fast. It is a high-intensity workout and as a result of this will increase cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance and flexibility.

Who is tae bo for?

Tae Bo is suitable for all ages, however it is advised that those who practice it have a good level of fitness. Before engaging in a class, check with your instructor for the class that’s right for you. If you are suffering from a medical condition check with your medical practitioner first.

What can I expect from a tae bo class?

Its only intent is to increase fitness through movement. Tae Bo includes many of the same punches and kicks as karate however it is not considered to be a combat sport. The workouts are instead designed for fitness purposes and not intended as training for fighting or self-defense.

Anyone interested in upping their fitness regime would be an ideal candidate for a class in Tae Bo.
