Work out your stress with an Indian Head Massage!

Indian Head Massage courses teach about helping the body by removing the stress. Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine, of which this forms a part, believe it can do even more than that.

Ayurvedic Medicine

The first Sanskrit writings about Ayurveda, the systems of beliefs that are followed by Indian tradition talk about 8 ‘components’ of Ayurveda that make up the wellness of the body.

These components are:

  • Kāyacikitsā, the general medicine used by the body to stay well
  • Kaumāra-bhṛtya, medicine designed for children – what would be referred to by modern medicine as paediatrics
  • Śalyatantra, or surgery, as it is now known
  • Śālākyatantra: Treatment of the face
  • Bhūtavidyā: The closest western equivalent to Butavidya is exorcism
  • Agadatantra, the treatment of poisons and toxicology
  • Rasāyanatantra, which deals with lifespan. Treating the Rasāyanatantra can rejuvenate the patient and help them to live longer.
  • Lastly the Vājīkaraṇatantra, which deals with reproduction and sexual pleasure.Correct treatment of it can lead to increased fertility in both men and women.

Treating the body using these medicines is believed the help humanity achieve its full potential. Indian Head Massage forms a part of these treatments, as it often uses oils to nourish the body.

The Chakra

The chakra, which are the spiritual centres of the body, can be treated by the components of Ayurvedic medicine. An Indian Head Massage forms part of this treatment, as it is said to align the Chakras. The idea of a chakra is found across many Eastern religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The belief that these spiritual centres, which run from the feet to the crown on the head form an important part of many traditional remedies and cures in India.

People who believe in the power of the chakra often claim that aligning them via a head massage will bring increased power and mental acuity to the body.

What will I learn on an Indian Head Massage course?

A course can teach anyone regardless of massage skill. If you are a complete beginner, then don’t worry. There are courses on offer specifically designed to help new masseurs and masseuses get into the subject. On the other hand, if you are already experienced, or have qualified in another form of massage, then there are other courses that are more suitable for your skill set.

Students will learn about where the chakras are located, and how to align them. This will involve learning various massage techniques to achieve spiritual balance and physical enjoyment. Courses are short and designed to fit into even the busiest of schedules, so there is sure to be one that is right for you.

What can I do once I have this qualification?

If holistic medicine is your passion, then a course in Indian Head Massage is a must. If you are looking to pursue a career in Ayurvedic and alternative medicine, then you should look into qualifying to perform one of the most integral parts of the treatment. On graduation of this course, you will be prepared for a role in the health and beauty industry as a whole. Employers such as health spas look to recruit masseurs to help their clients to unwind
during visits. Furthermore, alternative medicine has many other routes that graduates can choose to explore by taking other courses.

Ultimately, whatever the reason you decide to take a course in Indian Head Massage, you will be a popular person. Holistic therapists look for qualified individuals to deliver high-quality treatments. Friends and family look for people to provide relaxing massages. Plus, you will always be popular at parties.
