Fight the Power! Climate Change Education: According to the UN, Climate Change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. “From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale. Without drastic action today, adapting to these impacts in the future will be more difficult and costly,”

For more and more young people, tackling climate change is fast becoming the number one priority. The reality of the situation is that it is the children and young people of today who face the worst effects of the global abuse of past generations and their failure to put in place the necessary measures to combat it.

Worryingly, there is evidence that important tipping points, leading to irreversible changes and irreparable damage to the environment may already have been reached. Nevertheless, it is imperative that we continue to push global action on climate change to the top of worldwide agendas and it is young people more than others that are stepping up and fighting back on a massive scale.

We cannot underestimate the amazing work being done by Greta Thunberg. It has taken the action of a 15-year-old from Sweden to help ignite a global movement of activism and sparked a global movement of young people demanding greater action from governments to fight climate change.

One knock-on effect of this is that more and more young people fighting to protect the future of our planet are choosing to arm themselves with education.

We take a look at 5 courses on offer around the country that provide an academic step into a career tackling climate change and making a significant difference in the ongoing fight for climate justice.
