Course Structure

This course is delivered over 2 semesters with supported webinars held once per month. These are recorded so you can catch up later if you are unable to attend the live session.  This programme consists of four core modules. You will complete two modules in each semester.

Each module has 2 *  half day webinars designed to support the student to complete the modules scheduled for that semester. Webinars are generally held on a Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Attendance at webinars is recommended for an optimal learning experience and achievement. Webinars are delivered with the purpose of introducing the module lecturer, setting out the learning outcomes, content, the assessment strategy and expectations for skills/knowledge development.

All of the course material is held on an online learning portal which is an easy to use online platform specifically designed for online learning programmes. During the induction, students will be introduced to the platform with practical demonstration of how to use the portal and access lessons quickly and easily. To complete this course, students must have a basic knowledge of using a computer and searching the internet for research purposes.

Entry RequirementsEntry is by direct application to Portobello Institute. There are entry criteria available to students with differing qualifications/experience levels and these are detailed below. This programme is intended for applicants with a primary degree preferably but not limited to business, accountancy, commerce, fashion design, retail management – or a related discipline. A lower second-class honours degree or international equivalent is required. Applicants with substantial relevant work experience will also be considered – see below. All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
Carear PathReal Life Learning Opportunities Field Trips Portobello Institute organises trips each year to the following major fashion events in the annual calendar; Fashion City, Dublin Pure in London Moda in Birmingham Pret-a-Porter, Milan, Italy Who’s Next, Paris These are usually one day return trips and are booked with minimal cost for students. They are not included in the fees and are optional. Guest Lecturers Once off guest lectures are organised throughout the calendar year to give students an opportunity to gain insight into either a particular brand, the career of an established and successful professional in the fashion industry or an upcoming trend in fashion. These lecturers vary year to year but are always an interesting experience for our students. How will I be assessed? SMART assessments – we use a range of assessments for each module designed to support a broad range of learning styles, giving you the opportunity to excel. The primary aim of the varying assessment styles is to support you to demonstrate your knowledge of theory and practical as a result of a range of assessments. All of these assessment methods are seeking to support you to combine theory with scenario-based learning and how to practically implement these methods into your everyday practice. Students may apply for entry to the PGC Fashion Management using experience gained in the workplace in place of prior educational qualifications if they meet the eligibility criteria. Applications are reviewed on a case by case basis with practical knowledge a key criterion for entry via this route.
