This course is specifically aimed at Special Needs Assistants (SNA's), teachers and parents who have an interest in gaining practical and applied knowledge in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This course will introduce you to the different ways in which people on the autistic spectrum experience the world. You will explore the history of autism and the different strengths and challenges that it presents.
Various supports and interventions available for people on the spectrum will be examined. Currently graduates with knowledge and experience of autism are in high demand to work with multidisciplinary teams to support people with a diagnosis of autism. Graduates will explore a variety of evidence based approaches, methodologies and interventions. It is a one year full-time or two year part-time course.
Funding Opportunity
This year the Government has approved a part-time fee scheme for SUSI funding. For programmes to be eligible for this scheme they must lead to an undergraduate major award, such as a Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree, or Honours Degree. You will need to complete between 30 and 50 credits each academic year, with any remaining credits arranged in your final year. Classes can be attended in-person or through a hybrid format that includes some in-person sessions beyond just registration, enrolment, or exams.
