This Wireless/Mobile Communications 12 week micro-credential at DCU aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the design and architecture of wireless networks, focusing specifically on the distinctions between fixed and mobile voice and data networks.

Through this program, students will delve deeply into various aspects such as underlying system architectures, standards governing wireless communication systems at different layers (physical layer, MAC layer, network layer), as well as critical considerations in designing and planning a wireless network while addressing its inherent limitations and performance challenges. Additionally, the curriculum covers cellular networks by exploring concepts related to wireless signal transmission properties along with an overview of the evolution of cellular technologies. Students will also be introduced to different types of wireless networking standards including LANs, MANs encompassing both short-range and long-range networks, plus combinations thereof. Wireless sensor networks will also be exploed as will their application for the Internet of Things.
