Becoming an EU Translator or Interpreter Speakers:

Selina Mc Nerney

After many years working as a freelance translator in Madrid, Selina was recruited by the English-language department of the European Commission’s Directorate-General of Translation in late 2016 (having recently passed an EPSO competition for Spanish-language translators and a selection procedure for English-language translators).

Selina started in her post in Brussels in March 2017, working from Spanish and Portuguese initially and now also from French and Italian.

Aisling Ní Chatháin

Aisling has always had an interest in languages, multilingual communication and European affairs. She has a degree in Irish and French from the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) and an MA in Conference Interpreting (also at NUIG). She has been working as an interpreter with the European Commission (based in Brussels) since 2018. Her active Languages are Irish and English, but she also interprets from French and German.
