The course has been designed in collaboration with organisations/employers in the wider youth work sector to ensure that you are equipped to work in a variety of settings. As a part-time course, using blended learning methods, you can structure your learning and study time while working in a youth work environment. The course is conducted on a modular basis over one year. The blended learning methods of delivery involve a combination of online, flexible and face-to-face learning provision. The course is innovative for promoting active learning in the workplace, with assessments based on real-life situations in a youth work environment. The certificate course is devised on a modular, credit basis. Each module carries a specific number of credits. The Certificate in Youth Work Practice carries a credit weighting of 15 ECTS.

Entry RequirementsSpecial Entry Requirements You should have good reading and writing skills, as well as basic IT skills, as independent home study is required. The following are the entry requirements for our part-time courses: Part-time: If you are aged 21 years or over by January 1st of the year of admission to a part-time course, you may matriculate on the grounds of mature years alone. Therefore, many of the courses detailed state that there are no formal entry requirements involved. If you are aged under 21 on January 1st of the year of admission to a part-time course and are applying for a part-time course at NUI Galway, you may, in certain circumstances, be asked to fulfil the matriculation requirements for the University. These include a pass in at least six subjects (including Irish, English and another language) at the Leaving Certificate examination, with at least grade C3 in two subjects at higher level and at least grade D3 (ordinary or higher course) in the remaining four subjects. If you do not meet this matriculation requirement, you may be allowed to submit applications for some courses and you will be assessed on suitability for entry on a case-by-case basis. English Language Requirement An International English Language Testing System (IELTS)/ TOEFL certificate is required if English is not your first language to indicate your competency in written and spoken English for the course you are interested in taking. IELTS/ TOEFL is not required for the language diplomas listed in this prospectus.
Carear PathThere are many career opportunities open to graduates of the Certificate in Youth Work Practice course as it offers a solid practical and theoretical understanding of the youth work sectors, whether private, voluntary or statutory. As a graduate, you can choose to proceed to further studies such as the Diploma in Community Development Practice and/or the BA in Community and Family Studies.
