UCC ACE Diploma in Youth and Community Work



UCC ACE Diploma in Youth and Community Work is a course run by Limerick College of Further Education, Limerick. It is a Classroom Based course with a duration of 29 WEEKS. This is a two year, part time program combining development of practical profession skills with understanding of the theory that underpins successful social intervention projects. Lecturers have links to local intervention agencies and hold post graduate academic qualifications. It leads to QQI level 7 accreditation and carries 60 credits.
Students have the option of exiting at the end of first year with a QQI Level 6 Certificate.

Graduates of the program have progressed to full time employment in
the Youth and Community Intervention sector or continued to associated level 8
programs in UCC, TUS and UL. The UCC Lecturing Team combine their academic learning with extensive experience of working in Youth and Community organisations which facilitates a unique contribution of experiential learning in the classroom.

 

course modules

Year 1: – Core Skills of Youth and Community Work, Introduction to Youth and Community Work, Principles and Practices in Youth and Community Work and Introduction to Research
Methods.

Year 2: – Social Analysis, Disadvantage and Social Exclusion, Models of Youth
and Community Work, Managing Youth and Community Work Projects and Placement Practice. There will be a 70 hour Placement during second year.

Entry Requirements: Candidates should be over 21 and hold NFQ 5, Leaving Certificate or an equivalent academic qualification. Those who do not have English as a first language must have an IELTS 6 or equivalent language qualification. All students on this programme will have to be Garda vetted by UCC Admissions.

Delivery Style: Semester 1 will be Blended Learning. Lectures in Groups of 7-10 alternated with Virtual Classroom delivery.

Method of Assessment: There are no exams. The course is evaluated through a combination of learning journal entries, oral presentations, a community profile,
essays, a research report and a project portfolio.
