Introduction:

This one day CPD workshop is a practical introduction to the what, why, and how of research in psychotherapy aimed at encouraging openness, enjoyment, and authenticity through clear guidance, support and resources.

 

Course Content:

This course will address the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of research in psychotherapy with specific focus on the following: (i) how to find and recognise appropriate academic sources and literature, (ii) relevant research databases to consult, (iii) using key words to find relevant literature, (iv) referencing and (v) perhaps most importantly, why we engage in research within counselling/psychotherapy.

The learning outcomes for learners will be as follows:

  • To understand and appreciate the role of research within counselling/psychotherapy training and practice
  • Where and how to find appropriate literature
  • How to assess the quality and appropriateness of literature
  • How to reference within assignments
  • To identify supports and resources for academic writing and research
  • To check-in with ourselves to see how we feel regarding research and what factors can de-motivate or influence our engagement
  • To learn how to enjoy the process of research and appreciate that it matters in and of itself.
