Participant Profile:
This course is suitable for anyone wishing to develop a broad array of historical research skills. Designed for those with any level of interest in History, the course each week will include detailed instruction into the tools and sources that are available to conduct personal, family and community based history research and projects. This is a classroom based course NOTE: This course MAY take place at the Further Education and Training Centre, Kilmallock Road Campus, Limerick City, V94 Y6H3. Learners will be notified by text/email.
Programme Description:
• Raw materials of History • Reading and understanding primary and secondary sources • The library and archives • Art of the interview: discovering family secrets through conversations • Exploring newspapers • Investigating census records • Utilising visual and material evidence • Starting from scratch: techniques for building a family tree • Family history and the web: tracing your ancestors through the Internet • Creating and completing the History project.
