Fashion Design Advanced

This course is suited to learners who have already achieved a QQI Level 5 certificate or equivalent in Fashion Design.

The Advanced Fashion Design course focuses on the creative skills of theme and concept development for fashion design. Core technical modules in advanced pattern drafting and garment construction equip the learner with the skills required to make their own menswear, womenswear or costume collections. Learners will also develop art and design portfolios suitable for application to Institutes of Technology and Universities.

Entry RequirementsQQI Level 5 in Fashion Design or equivalent qualification or experience. Applicants will ideally have passed the core technical modules of pattern drafting and garment construction or equivalent. Interview - Applicants should bring samples of their work to date in order to demonstrate their interest in fashion design. Suggested work includes drawing and artwork, design sketches, scrapbooks, garments made or customised and artefacts. Mature students welcome. Applicants may be accepted without meeting formal entry requirements.

Graduates of this QQI/Level 6 course may also be considered for advanced entry to Year 2 of a related Degree programme in third level institutions in Ireland and the UK. Former learners have progressed to degree programmes in NCAD, LIT, IADT, Griffith College, London College of Fashion and a number of Colleges across the UK. Course progressions include Fashion Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Costume Design, Visual Merchandising & Display, Design for Stage & Screen, Styling and Sculpture.
