Discovering Opera

Is Opera something you already deeply appreciate?  Or is it something you've never quite got around to trying?  Designed for the novice and the initiated alike = this 8 week course will take you on a journey into the heart of opera.  Its intrigues, its passions, its powerful and persuasive storytelling.  At its best Opera is thrilling,visceral, and profoundly moving.  Depending on the opera, it can also make you cry with laughter!   Through interactive sessions, listening experiences, and group discussions our course will open the portals of discovery to a deeper appreciation of this most immersive of artforms..
As part of our journey of discovery, we will also visit a live opera performance in the shape of Irish National Opera's upcoming production of CARMEN in Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

John is an opera director who has worked with many of the top companies in the UK and Ireland - including Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera, and Wexford Festival Opera.  He also has a background as a theatre composer, and is a trained tenor who has sung with many of Ireland's most prestigious choirs.

Please note: The course is designed as a seven-week programme of classes, with an optional opera visit planned for the eighth and final week. Students who choose to attend will purchase their own ticket, which we anticipate will cost approximately €60. This ticket is not included in the €100 course fee.
