The BSc (Ord) in Game Development is a special purpose Ordinary Degree programme run over one year (12 months) part-time which will provide successful participants with specialist ICT skills in programming and mobile application development specifically designed toward the games industry. It is aimed at individuals who have a good foundation of computing, animation or design, acquired either through accredited programmes at Level 6 or above, or through professional experience.

The programme is co-ordinated by DIT’s School of Media and co-delivered with the School of Computing. The programme leverages expertise from across all relevant technical and creative disciplines. The programme complements existing programmes in digital game production and content development including the MSc in Creative Digital Media. The programme enjoys the full support of the games sector in Ireland, including Enterprise Ireland and Games Ireland, with industry mentors providing guidance on projects and support through internships and incubation.

All students can avail of a variety of industry opportunities including internship, industry-led project or structured industry-led testing and quality assurance projects. All of these options have been agreed with industry support.

In addition to completing any of these, students on this programme will complete technical modules in programming, mobile app development, game development, communication and production skills, and media entrepreneurship.

Entry RequirementsApplicants are required to have a Level 6 qualification in Computing, Information Technology or similar. Applicants with a background in Animation, Design or Digital Media will also be considered following a portfolio evaluation. Assessment of applicants' prior learning will also be undertaken, both academic and professional. RPL will be used where appropriate for the purposes of admission. Applicants are required to provide transcripts of results and details of programme experience (job title, job description, number of years employed etc.) when applying for the programme. In certain cases, students may need to demonstrate or showcase a portfolio of work.
Carear PathTo progress from one stage of a programme to the next a student may normally pass modules to the value of 60 ECTS credits at that stage including all those modules, which are compulsory for that programme of study. Students who are successful may exit with an Ordinary Degree or progress on to the BSc Honours Degree in Computer Game Development
