According to the CSO, the number of people in Ireland renting was over 325,000 in 2016. As the measures introduced since the economic crash in 2008, including the Central Bank Rules on Mortgage Lending, continue to take hold, there has been a major shift in Irish society from homeownership to the rental market. As such, residential tenancy law is more prevalent than ever.

On completion of the course, participants should expect to be able to recognize a lease that comes under the scope of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2004 (as amended), understand the rights and obligations of landlords and tenants, be aware of the protection (in terms of security of tenure) afforded to tenants under Part 4 of the 2004 Act, identify the requirements to terminate a residential lease and be familiar with the disputes process with the Residential Tenancies Board.
