This Carpentry course provides for students who wish to develop pre-apprenticeship skills, pursue employment or advance to further education. It aims to familiarise students with the work environment of the building industry and to prepare them for the world of work. The Safe Pass legal requirement for the building industry will form an optional part of the course. The course is linked to third level institutes for students who wish to pursue higher education.

Entry RequirementsApplicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age (16+). Leaving Cert, LCVP, LCA or QQI Level 4 Major Award is essential. Mature applicant route available for applicants aged 23+. Good verbal and written command of the English language, Common European Framework B1 or equivalent. Non-EU/EEA applicants must have permission to work in Ireland.
Carear PathSuccessful graduates of this course may achieve apprenticeships in the following trades: carpentry and joinery, blocklaying, plastering, plumbing, electrical, interior design, wood craft, metal craft, wood turning, painting and decorating, surveying, draughting, building construction, wood fabrication. The course is linked to third level institutes for students who wish to pursue higher education, e.g. GMIT Letterfrack Furniture College or Institute of Technology Tralee, Advanced Woodwork and Sustainable Technology Degree.
