Course Content

Many organisations develop a management plan or system to implement, manage and maintain environmental goals. This ordinary degree in Environmental Management is specifically designed for people who are required to take an active part in the environmental management affairs of an organisation. It is also suitable for others who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and competence base in the science of environmental management. About the Programme The programme will be mainly delivered online (using the MOODLE online teaching application) and students will be instructed in this method at the start of the programme. Online lectures, programme materials, innovative learning, web-links and assessments will be delivered using this platform. There will also be two workshops per semester, where the students will undertake teamwork, lectures and/or site visits to environmental facilities or organisations with functioning environmental management systems. This programme provides flexible learning environment that delivers live online lectures around relevant subject matter applicable to current environmental challenges. This programme also has a recognised track record in high quality environmental education with a network of graduates throughout Ireland and beyond. Participants who successfully complete the full programme of 60 Credits will be awarded a Bachelor of Science (Ordinary) in Environmental Management Level 7. Entry RequirementsHigher Certificate (Level 6) in a relevant science discipline at Merit Level or equivalent. Applicants with other qualifications and/or with relevant experience will also be considered. It is also envisaged however, that applicants with different backgrounds can successfully complete the programme, subject to assessment of other recognised qualifications, and/or recognised prior learning (RPL) and/or relevant work experience. These candidates will be interviewed for suitability and be subject to prior approval by the Programme Board. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions/ credit for some parts of the programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work or career. Career PathGraduates from the Level 7 in Environmental Management have successfully transitioned into a variety of careers. This includes utility management (e.g. water, wastewater, energy and environmental management systems), ecological, environmental and engineering consultancy, working in the area of planning, environmental impact assessment preparation and the development of ecological appropriate assessments. A number of graduates have gone on to successfully complete Level 8 and Level 9 courses, transitioning into the area of academic research.
