The aim of this programme is to produce a technician with a fundamental knowledge of the essential engineering skills associated with agricultural machinery. This knowledge, combined with extensive work based practical learning, will equip the learner with the skills demanded of a technician by the farm machinery industry.

The graduate will have knowledge and understanding of:
The function, operating principles, service procedures and fault diagnosis of tractors and farm machinery, electrical and electronic systems as applied to agricultural machinery;
Precision farming systems, workshop techniques including health and safety;
The creation and maintenance of digital records;
Pre-delivery inspection for agricultural machinery;
Effective engagement with customers.

Entry RequirementsApplicants wishing to enrol on this programme will need to secure work placement from a suitable employer. Applicants will be required to have the following minimum academic qualification - Leaving Certificate a total number of five subjects at grade OD3 or higher. required subjects are English Or Irish at OD3 and Mathematics at OD3 level. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) The Institute operates a policy that allows for the recognition of prior learning, both formal and informal. Informal and experiential learning includes non-accredited education, work based training and relevant life/work experience. This learning is assessed and this assessment may lead to academic credits, exemption from subjects on intended course of study or places on particular courses of study. Applicants are required to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating how they have achieved the learning outcomes of a particular module within a programme or how they meet the entry requirements of a programme of study. The Institute is committed to providing support and assistance to guide the learner through the RPL application and/or in compiling the portfolio. Applications for RPL for module exemptions are dealt with on an individual basis once a student has registered on a particular course.
