Killester College Course Prospectus

As a College of the City of Dublin Education Training Board (CDETB), Killester College of Further Education strives to excel in responding to the educational and courses needs of the community in Dublin 5 and surrounding areas. Our courses and programmes we offer are learner-centred and provided in a friendly, inclusive and supportive environment. Killester College of Further Education won an Award for Excellence through Accessibility in 2011.

All courses at Killester College range from QQI levels 4, to levels 5 and 6. They are accredited by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) They are qualifications in themselves but can also be used to progress onto Third Level. We welcome all ages from school leavers to Mature students.

We are situated 5 minutes from Killester Dart Station which is two stops from Connolly Station. PLC Grants; Back to Education Allowances; Vocational Training and Opportunities scheme (VTOS) are available.

Art & Painting - Beginners

This 10 week painting course is designed for absolute beginners. The first few weeks will be spent colour mixing and the course will culminate in a finished painting.

Art & Painting - Improvers

Concentrating on oils and acrylics this course allows you to work at your own pace on images of your own choice in a workshop setting.

Bead & Wire Jewellery Making

Learning and improving methods with beads and wire to create interesting and unique pieces of jewellery while looking at design and use of colour and texture.

Bridge - Beginners

This class is conducted in tables of 4, allowing students to learn bridge as they play under the instruction of the tutor.


This part-time 2 year course will fully qualify students to work in a Childcare facility while also preparing them to continue on to a QQI level 6 qualification. Modules to covered can be discussed with the tutor on registration.

Chinese - Mandarin

Suitable for absolute beginners this course will give you the basics in the Mandarin Chinese language and culture.


Computer Applications       [Note: Computer Applications + Information Technology Skills equivalent to ECDL] Information Technology Skills; Data Entry; Team working; Communications; Career Planning;Work Experience; Basic Maths

Computers - Beginners & Improvers

Beginners: Learn how to use the basic functions of a PC. Course includes basic Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Internet & E-mail. Improvers: Raise your level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and the use of the Internet for booking tickets and purchasing goods.


Students will complete 3 modules. Web Authoring, Computer Programming and Mathematics. All successful students will automatically gain entry to the part-time computer degree in DIT.

Creative Card Making

Create cards for all occasions. Learn how to matt and layer die cutting and the embossing method. Most of the kits will be prepared in advance. This is a fun and relaxing course.

Creative Writing - Beginners

This class allows students to learn from an experienced writer while also serving as a forum for sharing and discussion of tips and ideas.

Dance - Salsa Latin & Ballroom Dancing

The class is fun and allows students to learn to dance in a relaxed environment. No partner necessary.

Film & Literature Appreciation

An interesting look at themes shared in a diverse range of books and film. The course will include movie clips and discussions around extracts from books.

Flower Arranging

Learn to create beautiful and amazing floral arrangements using fresh flowers and foliage.

French - Beginners & Improvers

Beginners: Suitable for absolute beginners this course will give you the basics in the French language and culture. Improvers: Suitable for people with a basic knowledge of French this course will reinforce basic vocabulary and speaking French.

Genealogy & Family History

Discover exciting ways to trace your family history with this Genealogy course, while also completing practical work, going through actual copies of records themselves and working on the computers to experience the research online. (Previous experience of using a computer is not a requirement).

Guitar - Beginners & Impovers

Guitar – Beginners Topics include simple chords, one octave scales, strumming patterns and songs with simple chord progressions. Students will need their own guitar. Guitar – Improvers Topics include melodies, rifts, more strumming patterns and an introduction to more complex chords. Students will need their own guitar.

History - Local History Research

Become familiar with Local Archaeology & Monuments, Local Buildings & Architecture and Social & Cultural History. This last night is a trip to the Local County Archives.

Beginners: This course if for total beginners. Topics include: introducing yourself, talking about family and hobbies, ordering in a caf and booking a hotel room. Improvers: A continuation of the beginners course topics will include: basic tenses and expanding your Italian vocabulary and further develop speaking Italian.

Learn a new craft or revisit and old one! Create exciting fashions for yourself or for gifts.

Learn to use your touchscreen device for searching the web, wifi , emailing, camera functions, online banking, social networking and a whole lot more! Free wifi is provided but students will need their own device.

Meditation & Healing with the Angels

Gently relax in a safe healing space and learn how connecting with the angels can help us connect to our own inner wisdom.

Photography - Digital Photography & Photoshop - Introduction

Unlock the secrets of your camera as you explore a multitude of techniques in a friendly, jargon free atmosphere. Take your creativity to a new level with comprehensive photoshop tuition, project guidance and easy to follow exercises. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

Pilates - Beginners & Intermediate

Build strength, flexibility and endurance while concentrating on core muscles to promote a supple and graceful body. Students are required to bring their own Pilates mat.

Singing - Introduction

Learn techniques to find and improve your voice while singing harmonies to pop, rock, classical, gospel and folk tunes in a relaxed and enjoyable group setting.

Learn how to take those first steps in starting your own business. Learn from an experienced tutor while becoming familiar with the administrative duties.

Yoga - Beginners & Improvers

Beginners: Improve strength and flexibility in a relaxed atmosphere. Students are required to bring their own yoga mat. Improvers: Continuing on from the beginners class, you will work on furthering your flexibility and improving your breathing.
