239 Scholarships Awarded to UCC First Year Students

239 Entrance Scholarships were awarded to first year students last night in University College Cork (UCC).

Entrance Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement in the school leaving examinations. Students represented 115 schools in Ireland and 1 school in Poland.

Entrance Scholarships recognise and celebrate students’ commitment to excellence and their desire to succeed and reach their full potential in their chosen degree programme.  Professor John O’Halloran, President of UCC, in his Welcome Address said ‘UCC will nurture your talent and inspire you through our mission of learning, teaching and research so that you can lead the way to find new solutions to the most significant, most important and most urgent objectives of humanity’.

239 Entrance Scholarships were awarded to first year students last night in University College Cork (UCC).

Among the Entrance Scholarships were the Kavanagh Celtic Civilisation Scholarships awarded to the two highest achieving students who chose to study Celtic Civilisation as part of their BA Arts programme, while the Mary Ryan Scholarships were offered to the seven highest achieving students who registered to study at least two foreign languages.

The Bachelor of Education Gaeilge Scholarships, sponsored by An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta were awarded to the ten highest achieving students registered on UCC’s BEd Gaeilge degree programme. The Keynote speakers were Annie Madden and Nick Cotter, both Quercus Talented Students.
