Everyone who knows me knows of my love for Scandinavia, so when a colleague told me she was off to study in Trondheim, Norway for a year I was plain envious. While not quite Sweden, it was close. Close enough for me!
I am familiar with the Swedish system of education and how it is possible to take some months to study in a country of your choice or to apply for work experience in the country of your choice provided it is applicable to what you are studying, and all paid for by the Swedish Governement.
I quizzed my colleague on how this came about and followed it up with some research. The ache to go back and study hit hard especially if I could do so in my beloved Sweden! Suggested an onsite research idea to the powers that be. "No". Ah well, will content myself with writing about studying abroad instead and reading Amanda's reports from Trondheim which I will share with you here.
The opportunity to study abroad has many advantages - both personal and professional - which include:
- increased global knowledge and awareness
- increased intercultural competence
- improved employment opportunities
- networking
- personal enrichment
- You can become fluent in another language
Fun, enrichment and education, what a wonderful way to learn.
